Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their royal duties in March of 2020, following a drawn-out falling out with other members of the Royal Family. The couple have since been living in California with their son, Archie, who will turn two this year.
The family have not returned to the UK since then, owing largely to the coronavirus pandemic.
The couple made their landmark announcement this time last year, reportedly without the Queen or other family members knowing that they were going to do so.
Since then, the couple have signed a number of lucrative media deals with the likes of Netflix, and have started their own podcast.
Archewell Audio gave the world its first recording of their son Archie speaking, as well as appearances from a number of high profile friends, including Sir Elton John and James Corden.
Despite the couple’s clearly busy schedule, a source has told People magazine that the couple are planning to return to the UK in June 2021.
The couple may be returning for the Duke of Edinburgh’s landmark 100th birthday, where they will of course meet Prince Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
In July, there will also be the unveiling of a statue to commemorate what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday.
July 1, 2021, would have been the day Princess Diana turned 60.
The statement continued: “The statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on July 1, 2021, marking the Princess’s 60th birthday.
“The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy.”
Artist Ian Rank-Broadley was commissioned by the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.
The artist is no stranger to commemorating the royals, being the one who designed the image of Elizabeth II seen on all British coins.
Prince Harry and Prince William were only teenagers when their mother died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.
Princess Diana died from her injuries in hospital several hours after the crash at only 36-years-old.
Meghan and Harry’s travel plans will be subject to coronavirus restrictions at the time, with England currently in its third lockdown.
The UK Government recently announced that anyone wanting to travel into the UK would need proof of a negative coronavirus test before embarking.
