Sarah’s new book will be the Duchess’s first fiction title for adults and tells the story of Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott. The novel incorporates research into the Duchess’s own heritage and draws on her unique life journey and experiences. The Duchess of York is understood to have taken elements from her own life, coupled with research into her own family’s lineage and past. Sarah Ferguson explained: “It all started with researching my ancestry.
“Digging into the history of the Montagu Douglas Scotts, I first came across Lady Margaret, who intrigued me because she shared one of my given names.
“But although her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, were close friends with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, I was unable to discover much about my namesake’s early life and so was born the idea which became Her Heart for a Compass.
“With real historical events and facts to hand, my imagination took over.
“I invented a history for her that incorporated real people and events, including some of my other ancestors.”

The Duchess said her book creates a friendship between her heroine, Lady Margaret, and Princess Louise, Queen Victoria’s sixth child.
Ms Ferguson said she “drew on parallels from my life” to make up Lady Margaret’s journey.
She added: “I have long held a passion for historical research and telling the stories of strong women in history through film and television.
“I am proud to bring my personal brand of historical fiction to the publishing world.”
According to Mr Dampier, there’s one family member who is definitely not going to like the Duchess’s latest project.
He added: “Princess Anne might feel Fergie’s efforts are a bit frivolous and cheapen the royal brand.
“But she certainly would not criticise her in public, however racy the novel is.”
Mr Dampier says he doesn’t blame the Duchess for doing what she needs to do to pay the bills, especially among the family’s troubled year.
The commentator explained: “Andrew and Fergie have no money coming in, and the Queen is having to bail them out so she can’t really stop Sarah trying to pay the bills.”:
The Duchess is rumoured to be a huge fan of the hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton, which was released on Christmas Day 2020.
The Duchess of York is said to have reached out to the show’s creator to turn Her Heart for a Compass into a TV show as well.
Nothing has yet been confirmed but here’s hoping Fergie’s project ends up on our screens sometime in the future.
