Sophie Wessex is the wife of the Queen and Prince Philip’s youngest son, Prince Edward. Sophie and Prince Edward have two children together, James, Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Windsor. The Countess of Wessex has earned herself a reputation for being hardworking in recent years due to her busy schedule as a working senior Royal. Sophie is also known to be one of the Queen’s favourite members of the family, thanks to her down-to-earth and kind nature.

And now, Royal expert Ingrid Seward has revealed how Sophie approaches her role in the family in an “unfussy” way, making her a favourite.

Ms Seward praised the Countess for the way she “gets on with things regardless of the attention”.

Sophie, alongside her husband and two children, has made regular appearances at food banks throughout the pandemic and made lunches for NHS frontline workers in recent weeks.

Ms Seward said: “Sophie does everything very quietly, partly because the media don’t follow her obsessively as they do with William and Catherine, and partly because the things she does aren’t necessarily very glamorous.”

Ms Seward went on to say Sophie is “exactly what the Royal Family needs”.

The Countess of Wessex was likened to Princess Anne by Ms Seward, as the Princess Royal is often considered to be the hardest-working family member.

The Royal expert said the Countess would likely follow in Anne’s footsteps thanks to her “unfussy attitude”.

Ms Seward said Sophie was “someone who just gets on with things, regardless of the attention they receive”.

A former Royal equerry revealed: “If Sophie Wessex is staying at Sandringham then you can pretty much guarantee the Queen will ask her – usually last thing on a Saturday night – if she would like a ‘lift’ to the church.

“And the same happens at Balmoral. The Queen likes to be completely calm before church and she finds Sophie’s presence soothing.”

In addition to enjoying having Sophie around, the Queen views her as the family’s safest pair of hands.

A senior royal aide said: “She is trusted and relied on by the Queen in a way I couldn’t say applied to the Duchess of Cambridge or the Duchess of Cornwall.

“She is like another daughter to Her Majesty, they are that close.

“The Queen is also mindful that Sophie’s marriage has survived where her other children’s relationships have failed – and she knows that is in no small way down to Sophie’s dedication.

“She is aware, as his, Edward’s mother, what a tricky creature he can be.

“And not only has Sophie flourished as a dedicated, albeit still relatively junior member of the Royal Family, she has brought up two teenagers who are well balanced, sporty, amusing and delightful.”
