The author of a new unauthorised biography about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was grilled over the Queen’s reaction to the claims. Friends of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who contributed to the book referred to some palace officials as “vipers”. Omid Scobie, who co-authored Finding Freedom with Carolyn Durand, was questioned on what the Queen would think as he spoke about the culture of increasing tension between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.
The BBC host said: “I’m not sure if the Queen is reading your book, I rather doubt it.
“But if she were, she would be horrified, wouldn’t she?
“This has already been another annus horribilis for the Queen.
“She won’t enjoy reading this if she does read it.”

Mr Scobie replied: “I think the machine and machinations of the institution of the monarchy have long been discussed in the press.
“We’ve obviously heard the term, ‘men in grey suits’, born from Diana’s book with Andrew Morton.
“I think what we’ve seen time and time again is that things haven’t changed that much within the institution.
“It’s ultimately why they failed to really embrace and make it work with an American woman of colour marrying into the House of Windsor.”
The book also claims Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan’s relationship “never progressed far” although there is “no ill will” between the two.
It also accuses reports about tensions between the two women of “feeding into sexist stereotypes”.
There has been no comment from Buckingham Palace on the book so far.
A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom’.
“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
