The monarch appeared in six out of the nine most “liked” photos published on the Royal Family’s official Insta account over the past 12 months. Britain’s longest-reigning monarch joined the platform in 2013 to share pictures and updates from the Firm and has since amassed 8.6 million followers from across the globe.

According to The Telegraph, the Queen proved the most popular royal when it came to photos posted on the page in 2020.

The snap to garner the most “likes” features the Queen and Prince Philip celebrating the wedding of Princess Beatrice to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

The couple can be seen standing more than two metres from the bride and groom outside the Royal Chapel of All Saints, in keeping with social distancing guidance.

The photo was taken shortly after Bea and her Italian beau tied the knot in a private ceremony in July.

More than one million Insta accounts clicked “like” under the photo.

In second place was a photo of the newlyweds on their big day, which was liked more than 842,000 times.

And in third place was a snap of Princess Charlotte to mark her fifth birthday in May.

The photo of the young royal wearing a black and white houndstooth dress was liked by more than 784,000 people.

In February the Queen is due to celebrate the 69th anniversary of her coronation.

In September 2015 she became the longest-reigning British monarch when she surpassed the tenure of her great-great-grandmother Victoria.

And in February 2017 she became the first ever British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee.

The occasion marked the moment she had been on the throne for 65 years.

Despite her year being turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic – like most Britons – the Queen managed to celebrate milestones she crossed during the lockdowns.

In November she posted an official photo of herself and the Duke of Edinburgh reading cards for their 73rd wedding anniversary.

The pair celebrated the occasion in Windsor Castle, where they spent much of last year.

The photo they released shows the Queen looking on as her husband reads a card handmade by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The post was liked by more than 811,000 people on Instagram.
