The Government announced over 600,000 people have been vaccinated today – the UK’s highest daily rise. Yesterday 549,943 doeses were administered, taking the weekend total to over 1.1million.
It means nearly 10 million people in the UK have received a dose of the COVID vaccine, with the total currently standing at 9,468,382.
This includes a total of 8,977,329 first doses, while the number of second doses have reached 491,053.
Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi tweeted: “A new record! Well done team.
“Well done to all of the @NHSuk family, our Armed forces & the army of volunteers. We will do this.”
The UK is one of the world’s leading countries for its quick rollout of the coronavirus vaccine, following just the US and China.
According to figures provided by Our World In Data, the US has administered 29.58 million doses, China has given 22.77 million jabs.
But when accounting for the number of vaccine doses administerd per 100 people, Israel comes in front.
The data shows Israel averages at 2, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Serbia and the UK, on 0.99, 0.65 and 0.53 respectively.
