The Government has resisted calls from local leaders across the country to close them down, with cabinet minister Michael Gove insistent they “wanted to keep schools open”.
The Prime Minister previously said schools remain “vital” in a speech to the House of Commons on September 22, and vowed to keep them open.
He said: “We will ensure that schools, colleges and universities stay open, because nothing is more important than the education, health and wellbeing of our young people.”
The Prime Minister added: “It is vital for children to be in school, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that remains the case.”
