‘Finding Freedom’ by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand has been touted as the book that tells the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s side of the story, amid the many twists and turns of the last four years. Indeed, the authors noted that they wanted to portray the “real Harry and Meghan” and “present the truth”. Some people believe Harry and Meghan may have been personally involved, although they have denied this.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom.
“The book is based on the authors’ own experience as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
Nevertheless, the authors did speak to around 100 different people, from friends to royal household members, who have all worked closely with the Duke and Duchess.
By allowing their close friends to talk to them, many people have interpreted this as indirect approval of the book.

Therefore, the comparison has been made between this book and Andrew Morton’s 1992 biography ‘Diana: Her True Story’, which was an explosive book that revealed the infidelity and unhappiness in the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
As with Finding Freedom, Mr Morton spoke to Diana’s friends and family about her relationship with Charles, leading many to believe she approved of the book, and it was later revealed Mr Morton actually had direct input from the princess.
Diana recorded a number of tapes in which she described her experience living inside Palace walls, from her husband’s affair to her own mental health struggles.
These tapes were posthumously revealed to have been sent to Mr Morton from Diana and, in 2017, they were broadcast for the documentary ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’.

After Mr Morton’s 1992 book shook The Firm to its very core, Charles was careful to “never publicly criticise” his wife, but it did spur him on to retaliate in a way that spelt disaster for the royal marriage.
In her 2007 book ‘The Diana Chronicles’, Tina Brown explained how Charles responded with an interview with Jonathan Dimbleby in 1994.
He had been humiliated and felt he had been unfairly characterised, so was desperate to show his side of the story.
However, it was this interview that triggered Diana to sit down with BBC Panorama’s Martin Bashir in 1995, thus arguably setting off a chain of events that led to the end of the royal marriage.

Ms Brown wrote: “WIthout Andrew Morton, Prince Charles would never have decided to give a disastrously revealing interview to Jonathan Dimbleby of the BBC.
“Without Dimbleby, Diana would never have planned her retaliation by agreeing to give an incendiary, irrevocable interview to Martin Bashir on Panorama.
“And together, the interviews locked the royal protagonists into a course of no return.”
In the Dimbleby interview, Charles admitted publicly for the first time that he had been unfaithful to Diana in their marriage.
Meanwhile, Diana famously told Mr Bashir: “Well there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
After these two bombshells, the Queen finally “had enough” and ordered the couple to get divorced.
Given that William and Kate have been presented in a relatively unfavourable light in ‘Finding Freedom’, there is a chance they too may retaliate with a book of their own, or perhaps an interview.
Kate has been accused of being “cold” and William of being “snobbish” in how they behaved towards Meghan and Harry.

However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams considers it unlikely that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will respond at all.
He told Express.co.uk: “Buckingham Palace has not commented on any of the revelations in the extracts published so far from Finding Freedom.
“This is to be expected and is absolutely the right course to take.
“I can say with certainty that William and Kate are unlikely ever to respond to anything in the book.

“There are times when the unwritten royal rule of ‘never complain, never explain, is the only safe course.
“Meeghan felt she was let down by the lack of response to articles she regarded as critical of her.
“This was the only possible course, nothing would be more calculated to encourage those seeking sensation than a royal response.”
Kensington Palace declined to comment.
