Businessman Christopher Kingsley, 60, has invested hundreds of pounds in the “Herefordshire for Brexit” movement, in a bid to take on the Remainers who have been campaigning in the county ever since the June 2016 referendum result.

“We’re not here to convert a single soul – people have already made their minds up. We just want to wake them up,” he said.

“We are in this bizarre situation where no party seems to be able to deliver on Brexit so now it’s up to the people of Britain to make sure we get what we voted for.

It’s a non-party political movement. We are not trying to sell policies, we are just saying that Brexit must happen.

“While the Remainers have been very vocal, the silent majority hasn’t had anyone representing them. Ukip has done its usual trick of imploding so now it’s up to the people themselves.”

Travel firm boss Mr Kingsley added: “The public is getting mightily fed up because all they see is compromise and the pessimistic side of everything. It’s all doomsday, whereas there are a great many people out there who see Brexit as a fantastic opportunity. This is about bringing people together to have a common purpose. Our mission is to ensure that democracy is upheld.”

The group has already produced specially-branded postcards to be sent to MPs, as well as T-shirts and banners for stalls which will be put up at markets and country shows.

Mr Kingsley added: “We want the campaign to have a professional feel to it, which is why I have dug into my own pocket. We’ve already got a stall booked at a carnival and we’ll be targeting the tweed set at the Herefordshire county show.”

Herefordshire for Brexit has been galvanising support via its Facebook page, which features messages such as: “Get it right Mrs May! On your shoulders sits the future of your party and a generation of unrest if you don’t. A clean break or a messy future.”

Neighbouring Worcestershire is preparing to launch a similar campaign and organisers hope the movement will spread around the country as the UK continues negotiations with Brussels.
